Konarka Technologies Aligns Management Team for Commercialization of Advanced Photovoltaic Products

Lowell, MA, U.S.A. — February 27, 2004 — Konarka Technologies, Inc., an innovator in developing and manufacturing breakthrough products that convert light to energy, announced that Dr. Bill Beckenbaugh has been appointed as the Chairman of Konarka’s Scientific Advisory Council (SAC). The planned advancement is consistent with Konarka’s ongoing successful business strategy to continue the Company’s rapid transition from research and development to commercializing products. Dr. Bill Beckenbaugh led Konarka through its initial phase to establish a foundation on which the company could quickly commercialize and bring breakthrough photovoltaic technologies and products to market. Howard Berke, Konarka’s Chairman and CEO, will direct Konarka’s team in conjunction with Daniel Patrick McGahn, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, and Randolph W. Chan, Executive Vice President of Operations, Manufacturing, and Engineering.

“Bill Beckenbaugh was brought into Konarka to help us develop our technology platforms and bring the company to a phase where we are ready to commercialize our products,” said Howard Berke. “Now that we have successfully met that objective, Bill’s expertise will best be utilized working closely with our scientific advisors. Daniel McGahn and Randy Chan have been working closely with me to bring products to market, and I am confident that we have implemented the best management team for Konarka to continue to advance the leading edge of photovoltaic technology. We hired Daniel to come in and bring a product focus to the company and he has already done that. Randy has been promoted to Executive Vice President because he has been instrumental in pushing the technology at a very rapid pace to the point where it will be commercialized,” he added.

“I am pleased with the direction that Konarka is taking,” said Raj Atluru, Managing Director, Draper Fisher Jurvetson. “We are ecstatic that Bill is focused on driving our long-term technology development roadmap and leading an incredible group of technical advisors. Bill has a tremendous amount of expertise and insight that has been invaluable in matters relating to process integration and global scale-up,” Atluru concluded.

“Konarka has achieved unprecedented progress as we have established a foundation on which the company can rapidly commercialize and sell products into several vertical markets,” said Dr. Bill Beckenbaugh, Konarka Technologies, Inc. “I enthusiastically welcome the opportunity to Chair Konarka’s Scientific Advisory Council. I am honored to be able to work with truly world-class scientists from all over the world such as Alan Heeger, Alan Bard, Michael Grätzel and the entire Council. This allows me to move beyond the day-to-day tactical issues to assume a far more strategic role. As a result, I can focus on the long-term roadmap of our technology that will ultimately enable Konarka to scale-up manufacturing on a global scale,” Beckenbaugh concluded.
