Konarka’s Chairman and CEO Selected a 2004 Best of Small Technology Business Leader Award Finalist

Lowell, Mass. – November 30, 2004 – Konarka Technologies, Inc., an innovator in developing and manufacturing power plastics that convert light to energy, today announced its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Howard Berke was recognized as a 2004 Small Times® Magazine Best of Small Tech Business Leader Award finalist. Mr. Berke was cited for his efforts in bringing Konarka’s vision for low-cost, universally available sources of renewable power to fruition.

The 2004 Small Times Magazine Best of Small Tech Awards recognize the best people, products and companies in nanotechnology, MEMS and microsystems.

“The explosive growth in nano- and micro-enabled products across all industries has ramped up this competition considerably,” said Steve Crosby, president and publisher of Small Times Media. “This year’s winners and runners-up represent game-changing technologies – the kind of products and inventions that are allowing small tech to impact our daily lives.”

For Konarka, Mr. Berke has assembled a world-class team of business and technical experts, including two Nobel Laureates and the world’s foremost leaders in semiconducting polymers, to apply Konarka’s photovoltaic nanotechnology to commercially viable products. In the challenging business climate of the past year, Mr. Berke also has been primarily responsible for raising more than $18 million. The company is growing its business, attracting partners and customers and bringing positive change to the solar industry by enabling manufacturers to integrate embedded renewable power generation directly into a device, system or structure with light-activated power plastic.

“Given Small Times’ position as a leading source of information on nanotechnology, being chosen as a Best of Small Tech award finalist is welcome validation of Konarka,” said Mr. Berke. “I’m thankful for this acknowledgment of my role in this exciting company, but it is truly a team effort. Everyone at Konarka is critical to ensuring our success as we execute on our go-to-market plan.”

The recipients of the Small Times Magazine Best of Small Tech Awards, along with the runners-up, were selected by nominations and applications submitted by companies and individuals. Small Times Media news staff and an industry panel of experts reviewed the applicants and selected one winner and four runners-up in six categories, plus lifetime achievement. The panel considered accomplishments between September 1, 2003 and October 1, 2004. A complete list of winners and runners-up can be found in the November/December issue of Small Times Magazine and online at http://www.smalltimes.com.
